If your real estate videos feel slow or flat, speed ramps are the trick you’ve been missing. Instead of showing long, drawn-out clips, speed ramps add energy, connect spaces, and make your edits feel cinematic.
I’ll show you exactly how I use speed ramps in DaVinci Resolve to elevate real estate media — step by step.
Why Speed Ramps Matter
Real estate video isn’t just about showing a property. It’s about creating flow.
- They keep viewers engaged (no one wants to sit through endless slow motion).
- They connect spaces in a way that feels natural.
- They give your videos the polish clients expect on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
Step 1: Shoot in 60fps
Always start with the right footage. I shoot in 60fps and conform down to 30fps in Resolve. That way every clip begins as smooth slow motion, ready for speed ramping.
Step 2: Add Speed Points
Right-click your clip → Retime Controls → Add Speed Point.
This lets you set where the ramp begins and ends. Example: a drone shot that ramps from 100% → 1900% speed as it pushes toward the front door.
Step 3: Smooth With Motion Blur
A raw ramp looks jittery. To fix it:
- Add an Adjustment Clip
- Open Fusion
- Add a Temporal Motion Blur node (I set motion range = Medium, motion blur = 50).
This creates a smooth, “real camera” feel when the clip speeds up.
Step 4: Layer in Sound Effects
Sound sells the effect. I add:
- Whooshes for fast ramps
- Longer tonal whooshes for transitions
- Ambient layers like birds or waves for realism
Step 5: Ease With Keyframe Curves
Open the Retime Curve Editor and ease the in/out of your ramp. This turns a harsh speed jump into a smooth glide. Pair this with fading motion blur in/out for pro-level results.
Bonus: Seamless Transitions
My favorite trick: combine a ramp with a crash zoom. Imagine flying a drone down a path, ramping up speed, then zooming into the next room. It feels like one continuous shot and adds that “luxury” cinematic energy.
