Did I just spill a can of Celsius all over my table and have to clean it up? Yes. Am I a little annoyed? Yes. But guess what? We’re moving on.
I had the DJI Mavic Pro for over four years. I never crashed it or had any major issues. This drone has been a tank, and honestly, I would still use it if needed. However, the difference between the Mavic Pro and the Mini 4 Pro is crazy. The Mini 4 Pro is so much lighter and more compact. The Mavic Pro is big, bulky, and excellent in high-wind situations, but I was always terrified that it would randomly die and fall on a massive $10 million house I was shooting.
It felt like it was time for an upgrade. My good friend and partner, N, told me he just got the DJI Mini 4 Pro and loved it. So, I decided to give it a shot.
The footage from the Mini 4 Pro is impressive. It’s not drastically different from the Mavic 2 Pro or Mavic 3 for real estate purposes. Especially for beginners, those growing their business, or anyone on a budget, it’s affordable and gets the job done.
Pros and Cons
Let’s break this down into pros and cons and then go through some quick stats. I’ll also include pricing information and an affiliate link in the description if you want to support the channel by purchasing through it. If not, no worries!
Pros
- Ease of Use:
- This drone is incredibly easy to use. The unfolding mechanism is simple, and you can unfold it however you want. You don’t have to worry about the propellers; they automatically adjust.
- The battery insertion and removal are straightforward, and I love how the SD card slot is conveniently located on the back.
- Portability:
- The carrying case from the Fly More Combo is fantastic. I love how the batteries are set up and that there’s only one USB-C charger for everything.
- Although it takes a while to charge everything, it’s not a big issue.
- Controller:
- The controller is a game-changer. Unlike my DJI Mavic 2 Pro, which required using my phone, the Mini 4 Pro comes with a remote with a screen.
- The touchscreen is responsive, and the buttons are intuitive. You can switch between photo and video modes easily.
- Flight and Handling:
- This drone is excellent for indoor flights and less intimidating than larger models.
- The batteries last 20-30 minutes each, and with three batteries, you can easily cover multiple shoots in one day.
- Camera Quality:
- It shoots in D-Log 4K at 60fps, which is amazing for such a small device. The footage looks great, especially with the DJI D-Log preset.
- It also performs well at night and has excellent color accuracy for photos and videos.
- Features:
- The Mini 4 Pro has a Home Point feature that marks your takeoff location on the map, which is super helpful if you lose track of your position.
Cons
- Fragility:
- The drone feels fragile due to its plastic build. I’ve been extra careful with it, always using the case and the gimbal protector to avoid any damage.
- External Threats:
- I find myself more worried about birds and bees. Birds, especially crows or seagulls, could potentially knock the drone out of the sky. Bees can also be a nuisance at certain altitudes.
- Wind Resistance:
- While the Mini 4 Pro handles wind well, it’s not as stable as the Mavic Pro models in very windy conditions. For those situations, I’d still prefer using the Mavic Pro 2 or 3.
Additional Features
Let’s touch on some of the cool features highlighted on the DJI website:
- Weight: Under 249 grams, so no need for FAA registration.
- Camera Capabilities: 4K at 60fps, slow-motion at 100fps, excellent low-light performance, and vertical shooting for social media content.
- Battery Life: Up to 34 minutes per battery, providing over an hour and a half of flight time with the Fly More Combo.
- Transmission Range: Claims up to 20 km, though I haven’t tested this limit extensively.
- Quick Shot Modes: Includes modes like Dronie, Rocket, Circle, Helix, Boomerang, Asteroid, and Dolly Zoom.
- ActiveTrack: Great for tracking moving subjects, though not typically used for real estate.
Conclusion
If you’re in the real estate game, I believe the DJI Mini 4 Pro is the most affordable and capable drone you need. I’m still interested in getting the DJI Avata 2 and the Mavic 3 Pro for more cinematic work and higher-quality shoots, but for now, the Mini 4 Pro is perfect.
