For the past year or so, I’ve relied on my Manfrotto tripod, which I bought used on Facebook Marketplace. It’s been a great, sturdy companion, and I love the ballhead setup. However, I’ve been on the lookout for a secondary, more compact tripod that could be easier to travel with. Enter the Heipi W28S. This is something my bulky Manfrotto just couldn’t manage.
First Impressions: A Game-Changing 3-in-1 Design
When Heipi sent me the travel tripod, I was stoked to try it out. And let me say, I’m impressed. One of the main standout features of this tripod is its 3-in-1 design. Not only does it function as a traditional tripod, but you can also unscrew parts to reveal a smaller sub-tripod, and it comes with a ball head that is essential for real estate photography.
For many of my real estate shoots, I don’t need anything too heavy-duty – just something lightweight that I can set up quickly, will stay stable, and has a ball head for smooth adjustments. This tripod is perfect for my needs.
If I were doing a high-end commercial or architectural shoot where I need extreme stability and the time to set up something bigger, I might choose a bulkier tripod. But for my usual fast-paced, in-and-out real estate shoots – where I’m often done in 30 minutes – the Heipi W28S is perfect. It’s sturdy enough for these shoots without the hassle of lugging around something massive.
The carbon fiber legs on this tripod feel solid – they don’t have that cheap, plastic feel that you get with lower-end tripods. In fact, they’re comparable to my Manfrotto’s carbon fiber legs, though the Manfrotto’s are a bit thicker. What’s really cool, though, is the three-pillar system on the sub-tripod. This system provides additional stability when extended, and I appreciate the security it offers when shooting in tricky situations.
If you’re ever worried about stability in windy conditions, the tripod also has stainless steel spikes that you can screw into the bottom of the legs. These spikes give extra grip by digging into the ground, which is especially helpful on uneven or rough terrain.
One feature I didn’t expect was the smooth panning. This tripod pans more smoothly than my current Manfrotto head. By loosening the adjustment knob, I can pan smoothly, and it even has a clicker that locks every 10 degrees. This is perfect for shooting YouTube videos or when I need a nice, clean pan for my real estate work.
Another unexpected feature is the built-in phone mount. Inside the tripod plate, there’s a hidden phone mount that pulls out easily. I can even twist it for horizontal or vertical shots, which is a game-changer for creating content on the move. Whether I’m vlogging or capturing quick social media content, this feature adds tons of value without needing a separate mount.
For my real estate work, especially interior design or architectural shots, I often need to shoot vertically. This tripod makes it super easy to switch to portrait mode by twisting a knob and adjusting the ball head. I recently used it for an interior design shoot, and it made capturing perfectly aligned vertical shots a breeze.
Plus, like most decent tripods, it has a built-in bubble level, which helps me keep everything aligned, especially when shooting detailed architectural work.
How Tall Does It Go?
The Heipi W28S can extend up to 60 inches, which is fantastic for a travel tripod. I rarely need it to go much higher than that unless I’m standing and talking directly to the camera, but for most of my real estate shoots, this height is more than enough. For its compact size, this is a major win.

Cons:
- Not Ideal for Heavy Gear: This is a travel tripod, so if you’re shooting with a massive setup, you might want something more heavy-duty.
- Sub-Tripod Adjustment: When the sub-tripod comes out, it takes a moment to get it back into place properly. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it can be slightly annoying if you’re in a rush.
Final Thoughts
For a travel tripod, the Heipi W28S is hands down the best I’ve used. It’s lightweight, versatile, and packed with useful features that make my real estate photography workflow smoother. Whether I’m shooting verticals, panning for videos, or creating content on the go with my phone, this tripod delivers.
